Holsters and magazine holders are essential gear in action shooting sports. They ensure safe firearm handling, rapid access, and secure retention—critical for performance and safety in disciplines like USPSA, IDPA, and 3-Gun.
The materials used to construct a holster matters. Don't show up at a match with a collapsible, soft nylon holster. Also, leather holsters get sticky when wet. Look for holsters made out of Kydex.
Most common for competition shooting.
Fastest draw speed with minimal concealment.
Used in IDPA, USPSA, Steel Challenge, 3-Gun.
Primarily used for concealed carry, not competition.
Some clubs will allow IWB holsters for competition, but don't presume it is allowed. Definitely confirm before going to the match.
Places holster lower and away from the body.
More ergonomic and quicker draw for competition.
Not allowed in IDPA
Designed for open division competitors (e.g., USPSA Open Division).
Very fast draw, adjustable tension, open top designs.
