The Safe Table (also called the Safety Area) is a designated, clearly marked zone at every IDPA and USPSA match where competitors may safely handle unloaded firearms without a Range Officer present. However, strict rules apply, and violations can result in match disqualification.
Unloaded firearm handling for:
Holstering or unholstering
Dry practice (e.g., draw practice, sight alignment)
Maintenance and cleaning
Changing or inspecting holsters or other gear
Use of dummy rounds or snap caps (IDPA only, USPSA prohibits all ammunition—including snap caps—at the Safe Table)
No ammunition of any kind (live rounds, mags with rounds, snap caps in USPSA)
No magazine handling — even if the magazines are empty
No ammunition in your hands, pockets, or gear while at the table

Important Reminder:
All firearm handling outside the Safe Table requires direct supervision by a Range Officer. Once you are geared up, don't remove your pistol from the holster until the RO’s "Make Ready" commands during a stage.
Always check with the Match Director or Safety Officer if you’re unsure. Following Safe Table rules keeps everyone safe—and in the match.
