#1 Rule - Safety.
Untrained, or improperly trained, people often do stupid shit on the range. If you suck at the basics, you aren't going to be safe while under the pressure of a match. Don't try to participate in an action shooting if you have not learned the basic rules and etiquette of the sport. Watch a few matches and learn from other competitors.
Gun owners who are proficient in competitive shooting are also some of the most safe gun owners that you will meet. Learn from them!
If you are not shooting at least 100 rounds a month and becoming proficient in static position shooting....you are probably not ready for competitive shooting.
Master the basics - and it's more than grip, stance, sight picture, trigger control, breath control, etc. It's about safely drawing from the holster, speed reloading, movement .... and holding it all together while under pressure. Watch the training videos that we selected.
How do you get better at the basics? DRY FIRE PRACTICE!
